31 Weeks

From babycenter.com:

This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He’s probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby’s kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

Me & Blake in front of "Mt. Rushmore" at the Presidents Museum in Clermont, 31 weeks.

How I’m feeling:

  • Hot
  • Hungry
  • Huge
  • Tired
  • Achy everywhere
  • My hair has gotten crazy long
  • Heartburn sucks
  • Otherwise ok

Really, this is just me whining. I’m fine. All my symptoms are mild in comparison to a lot of pregnant women.

Lunch at Moe’s 9/18/10

Me & Krystal (30ish and 39ish weeks respectively)

On Saturday I had lunch with a friend from college who was also not only pregnant and due tomorrow {if she hasn’t already birthed her baby boy} but whose contractions had started that morning. I hope I look as radiant/gorgeous/amazing as she did when I’m almost 40 weeks and laboring!

Prayers, love, and best wishes to Krystal, Andy, and baby Pearce!

Baby party #1 – 9/17/10

On Friday, Sept. 17 I had my first baby shower which consisted of mostly my co-workers, friends, and some family. It was at Copper Heron Cafe in Tavares. I only have a few photos so if anyone has some, please email me!

We all wore silly name tags and went around introducing ourselves. We ate some yummy food.

Blake and I opened gifts and judged the “Most Creative Recycled Wrapping” contest. Thank you to everyone for your generosity! {Fyi, registries have been updated.} The baby now has so much clothes (too much)! For the wrapping contest, folks re-used gift bags, or used no wrapping, or got super creative and made huge sunflowers out of plastic water bottles or used and re-sewed a dog food bag or intricately wrapped each gift with a theme using recycled materials.

Obviously it was an eco-friendly shower, with minimal decorations and homegrown sunflower plants as party favors. Everyone was so kind and put up with my green OCD.

30 Weeks

How I’m feeling at 30 weeks:

  • Like I’m harboring a professional boxer (Ben’s kicking like a madman)
  • Tired (having trouble sleeping, getting up a lot, tossing and turning, back hurts, neck hurts, waking up in the middle of the night starving)
  • Like my stomach acid is is eating my throat (heart burn – love Tums!)
  • Otherwise, not bad ๐Ÿ™‚

Update from BabyCenter (she changed to he):

Your baby’s about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus.

His eyesight continues to develop, though it’s not very keen; even after he’s born, he’ll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he’ll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision รขโ‚ฌโ€ which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

42 things that change when you have a baby

by Rebecca Woolf
Last updated: June 2009

What changes when you have a baby? A better question may be: What doesn’t change? Here, writer and mom Rebecca Woolf lists her most notable post-baby observations. Then scroll down to read our favorite comments from readers about how their babies changed their lives.

1. You finally stop to smell the roses, because your baby is in your arms.

2. Where you once believed you were fearless, you now find yourself afraid. [See a reader’s perspective in #22, below.]

3. The sacrifices you thought you made to have a child no longer seem like sacrifices.

4. You respect your body … finally.

5. You respect your parents and love them in a new way.

6. You find that your baby’s pain feels much worse than your own.

7. You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.

8. You lose touch with the people in your life whom you should have banished years ago.

9. Your heart breaks much more easily.

10. You think of someone else 234,836,178,976 times a day.

11. Every day is a surprise.

12. Bodily functions are no longer repulsive. In fact, they please you. (Hooray for poop!)

13. You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.

14. You become a morning person.

15. Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.

First WEIRD craving

So far, I haven’t really had any weird cravings. For a month or so I wanted spicy foods. Got over that. Lately I’ve just wanted food and I’ve been drinking a lot of pomegranate-cranberry juice.

However, on Wednesday, I walked into a bathroom at the public library and smelled something that made me salivate… in the bathroom!

Go into the poddy, do my business, and I go to wash my hands. I smell the scent again. It’s soap! And I start to salivate again. WTF?!

Smells like lunch!

29 Weeks

Update from BabyCenter.com:

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you’ll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby’s hardening skeleton each day.
