Trip to the park

Ben, Blake, and I went to Wooten Park in Tavares. Gotta say, Florida is disgustingly muggy and sticky in the summertime. Can’t wait to complain about how cold it is!

Ben’s first drum kit

Every paycheck, Ben gets “fun money” to buy “himself” new toys. A few weeks ago, he bought a Drum kit. Ben and daddy play with the new toy:

Baby sunglasses

Another thing I learned this morning that I should be doing: Ben should be wearing sunglasses!

Or a hat or something to protect his eyes.

Is this common knowledge?

I saw this on lilSugar this morning and then had to investigate. Apparently, it’s a good idea.

It’s no surprise that Rachel Zoe’s lil one is already sporting a pair of oversize sunnies. The stylish 3-month-old tot was spotted accompanying his mama on some grocery errands yesterday, where both were protecting their eyes from the sun’s strong rays. It’s never too early to shield lil ones’ peepers from UV rays, and there are plenty of trendy pint-sized sunglasses to do the job, including the John Lennon-esque version ($7) baby Skyler wore on the outing. Check out other fun picks for infants and toddlers below.

From top to bottom: One Step Ahead Sun Smarties Wrap Shades ($10), Babiators Blue Angels ($20), Baby Lennon Sunglasses ($7), BabyBanz Adventure Banz ($16), Julbo Looping($32).

First tooth coming in

We can see a tooth peeking through the bottom gums. Which is great because he’s been SUPER cranky this weekend. Is he supposed to be cranky with each set of teeth coming in?

So here’s a list of stuff I need to do that I just found out this morning, from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry:

  • Take Ben to the dentist when his first tooth comes in.
  • Get us some dental insurance.
  • Brush his teeth starting several months ago.
  • Stop breastfeeding him at night.

Development @ 7 months

Ben is now 7 1/2 months. On the chart below, so far he has mastered all the 7-month Mastered Skills and Emerging Skills, and a few of the Advanced Skills. He’s mastered everything on on the 8-month Skills lists and most of the things on 9-month Skills list. He’s gonna be a genius, like me!

So Ben is:

  • crawling,
  • standing up while hanging on stuff,
  • feeding himself Mum Mums, cereal, freeze-dried yogurt thigns, etc.
  • babbling,
  • saying “Mama” and “Dada” (he says “Mama” when upset and “Dada” when playing with his sippy cup or eating).

Feed that boy

Ben has been eating food for a few months now.

Strangely, he really does like just about everything: apples, bananas, all kinds of squash, sweet potatoes, spinach, pears, peaches, broccoli, rice, chickpeas, green beans, peas, mangoes, pineapples, beets, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, prunes, and corn, and probably more that I can’t think of.

So far there are only two things he doesn’t like: carrot and lentils.

I think his favorites are apples and peas.

He is a messy eater so we bought him some smocks at IKEA, pictured above.

For his height and age, he’s a little underweight so we’re trying to fatten him up a little.

Having fun

Ben’s been so active since he learned to crawl. His most recent toy was a walker thingy that makes a lot of music/noise.
